Our next Captains of Industry Talk will take place on Thursday 24th September at 4pm and be delivered by GCU honorary graduate Dr Brian Duffy.
Originally from Castlemilk in Glasgow, Brian was one of the last cohorts able to do chartered accountancy from school, qualifying at the age of just 21. From there, his career saw him work for organisations such as Polaroid and Playtex where he became UK Chief Financial Officer aged 28. He progressed through the ranks to lead its finance operations at a European level, based in Paris, and then globally from Connecticut.
In 2003 Brian made a move into the luxury sector after he was offered to work for fashion brand Ralph Lauren, where he spent nearly a decade with the business serving as president for Europe and the Middle East. Seeking a more UK-based post, and with a keen personal interest in watches, Brian took on his most recent role as Chief Executive Officer of The Watches of Switzerland Group in 2014.
Brian, will provide an overview of his career journey as well as discussing the impact of COVID 19 on the retail industry, now and in the future, sharing his thoughts on where the opportunities lie for new graduates looking to pursue a career in retail.
